Divya Subba was born on September 24, 1983 at Putali Bazaar, Dharan to Late Kewal Subba and Rama Subba. His father was a veteran musician and had served at Radio Nepal. Dibya spent his entire childhood in Dharan. Till class five, he studied in his hometown school -- Satya Sishu Niketan. After this, he came to Kathmandu and got admitted at Universal Shrine of Learning from where he completed his SLC and Higher Secondary Education. Since his early days, Dibya was very shy and an introvert. He used to spend most of his time at home. He was very good in his studies and informs us that he used to be pretty good at fine art too.
ENTRY INTO MUSIC
Since his father was a musician, Dibya was raised up in a musical environment and it was none other than his father himself who taught him music. When he was 11 years old, he had already polished up his vocal chords and even used to sing songs of Narayan Gopal and Deep Shrestha with no flaw at all.
He often sang at home and used to spend time in practicing music but never did he collect his guts to sing on stage. "When it comes to performing on stage, I used to get nervous like hell. It is not that I didn't try, but I couldn't overcome my fear!"
It was after releasing his first album 'Pratha', that he started doing stage shows. With 'Pratha', his fellow-students came to know of Dibya's hidden talent...before this no one in their wildest dreams had thought of Dibya, one day making it in music.
Divya has been quite successful in winning accolades from his debut album. So far, he has traveled to most of the major cities in Nepal for performances . An the recent 'Image Music Awards 2005' he was honored with the title of 'Best New Artist'. For three years, he learned classical music from Do Re Me School under the guidance of Gurudev Kamat. Because of finances, he had a hard time during the recording of his songs for 'Pratha'. After nearly one and a half years, he succeeded in completing the recording of all the songs. If that was not enough, coming to Kathmandu and looking for a music company to release his album, was next to impossible. "I was rejected by almost all music companies. One of my friends informed me about this new music company called Situ Digital. He asked me to pay a visit and it is because of Situ Digital that my hard work has paid off!" Divya had even participated in 'Nepal Star'-- a talent hunt program organized by Nepal 1. However, he could only make it to the last 15.
Well! Everything has now changed, everything is going absolutely fine with his career. Dibya is now working on his second album for which all compositions have been completed. He states that he will start recording the songs from August. He cares to add, "This time all the songs are rock flavored!"
ME/MYSELF
People have started recognizing me but nothing has changed as far as my personality is concerned. There are people who have the misconception that after getting the hype and attention I have become arrogant. But let me clarify that nothing of that sort has happened. As I am a shy and an introvert person, people tend to get the wrong message. I still feel a bit awkward while talking to people. I speak less, therefore people might think that I am a rude person.
I like to live in reality and I prefer to live alone rather than in groups. There are certain subjects which people find it big, but I take those subjects in a minor way. I believe that is my bad aspect. In short, I am just a simple person with dreams like anybody else.
LOVE AND MARRIAGE
I do not know how to define love. Actually, it is very difficult to even define it! He does not hesitate in informing us that he is involved with a girl. "At times, we do go out on a date!" Though he has someone in his life, till date they have not decided on marriage. "I know that there are certain responsibilities once you tie the knot. As for now, my focus is only on my work. I still have lots more to do!
