Bijay Lama was born to Ram Bahadur Lama and Soma Rani Lama on April 12, 1979 in Kathmandu. He spent his early days at Khal Chowk, Kavre and in Kathmandu. He was a very mischievous child. He admits, "I used to steal money from my sister Yanjing and with it I used to buy guccha and go play with my friends. And that is not all. Many times I used to bunk my classes and instead went to theatres to watch films. I still remember the good days in my village when I used to play the flute on top of the trees and so many other interesting things that I used to do." Lama never gave his first priority to education. Somehow he managed to completed his Higher Secondary Education.
LOVE FOR MUSIC AND ENTRY IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
Lama had a keen interest in music since his childhood. His mother used to sing as well. No wonder this had a profound impact on his life. As time passed by he started practicing songs of other singers. In 1995, he came up with a band 'The Five Heart Beats'. He was a singer and later they started going their own ways. They were not able to create much music of their own.
He performed on stage for the first at 'Sajan Smriti Competition' and was able to bag the title of 'Best Performance'. After this, he recorded his first ever song "Mayalu Timro Yadma" which was made possible by Sajan Smriti. After this he started getting along with senior musicians and singers. In 1998, he released his first solo album 'Beshara Jiwan'. Like the name suggests, the album too was a beshara. It hardly came to the notice of general people. One of the songs in the album "Johmsom Pari", to some extent was able to introduce him as a decent singer. With time he released his other album 'Lasso', 'Om Mane Peme' and 'Dorjey' respectively. With these he was able to get some recognition as a singer. His latest album 'Dorjey' is doing a pretty decent business in the market. It has been six months since the release of this album and so far more than twenty thousand cassettes and CD's have been sold. The songs in the album are also getting good airplays on both the FM channels and TV stations.
He has received three months course in classical singing from Sadhana Kala Kendra. He has done many stage programs in Nepal. Few weeks back he was in the US where he did six shows at various states of the country. He is very popular among the Mongolian communities. Lama was asked by many well-wishes from the US to stay back yet he decided to come back to Nepal and do something worthwhile in Nepal.
WOMEN AND MARRIAGE
Lama is of the opinion that love and marriage play major roles in any individual's life. Still, he says he does not give much importance to marriage. "As for now I don't have any special person in my life. And I am sure that there is someone who is destined to be my life partner. When the right time comes, I will definitely marry."
