Nima Rumba was born on May 26, 1972 to CThulthim Rumba and Thuli Maya Lama. They used to live in Suwarnapur, Birgunj. He has two brothers -- one elder and one younger to him. When still a kid, his family migrated from Suwarnapur to Kimdol, Swayambu, Kathmandu. He informs us that during his early days, he preferred playing around rather than concentrating on his studies. "I spent my entire childhood playing marbles, swimming and fishing. I have numerous experiences of stealing fruits and vegetables from others" reveals Nima. Initially, he was admitted at Jan Sudhar Primary School, Swayambhu where he received his basic education after which he was transferred to Shri Gita Mata Higher Secondary School, Bijeswari from where he completed his School Leaving Certificate (SLC). Nima accepts that after SLC, his interest in music developed further and hence, after completing his Intermediate Level from Samyukta Campus, he abandoned his academics and concentrated more on his music.
LOVE FOR MUSIC AND ENTRY INTO THE MUSIC SCENE
Since his early days, Nima preferred listening to music. His personal favorites were veteran artists of Nepal besides other western singers. However, he had never in his wildest dream thought that he would make a career in the field of music and entertainment. He used to listen to Michael Jackson, George Michael and Bob Marley but it was J.J. Cale that he was most inspired by. He shares, "After SLC, my friends from Shri Gita Mata Higher Secondary School had formed a band called the 'Bass'. I was also involved in it. We used to be quite active doing programs in and around our locality especially during Dipawali." 'Bass' was not able to much music wise and this resulted in Nima going his own way. Soon after this, he got involved in another band called 'The Peace' and they succeeded in releasing a single "Aaideu Priya". He then decided to go solo and released his first solo single titled "Jadaichu Tadha Tadha".
As time passed by, he came up with his first solo album 'Suna Suna'. But it was the song "Miss Catwalk" included in the album 'Memories' which was able to introduce Nima as a talented singer in the music circuits. Solo albums - -'Huri Batas', 'Lolita' and 'Faith' happened respectively and by then, he had already established himself as the most popular musician in the country. His latest release is 'Pride'. Now, it has already been 10 years since his involvement in the Music Industry of Nepal. "With time, my relation with people have developed and they are the ones who have been encouraging me to go ahead in the music field. That is the main reason why I decided to name my latest release 'Pride'. I feel proud to have such admiration and support!" states Nima.
ME/MYSELF
My music is totally different from the rest and I have succeeded in making my own identity. I too have positive and negative aspects. I like to live life to the fullest with positive attitude and humbleness. I was brought up that way and believe that to live a decent life, positive mind frame is a must and if one deserves respect, no harm in giving it. I have struggled hard in my life and do not lack in self-confidence. I'm normal like anybody else.
STRUGGLE AND JOURNEY TO HONG KONG
Soon after completing his SLC, Nima started struggling in his life. Though he was in some ways involved in music, life was not as pleasant as he had wanted it to. He was depressed and at times thought that he was born 'unlucky'. He joined his wife Shelly in Hong Kong and in 1996, "Whenever, I think about the days in Hong Kong and the hardships that we went through, it brings back harsh memories. At least here, I had earned some sort of credibility whereas I was labouring hard in HK just to make ends meet." informs Nima.
LOVE AND MARRIAGE
Nima opines and feels that true love gives a new meaning to life. He says, "That one person in your life who walks by your side during your ups and downs can be considered as your true love." He was putting his best in his music career and one fine day everything went right for him. It was after his show at Pragya Bhawan, that he first met his to-be wife Shelly Thapa, who was a big fan of his. Phone numbers were exchanged and with time developed a serious relationship. After courting each other for nearly a year, they decided to get married. The year was 1995. "Shelly is an inspiration to me and it is because of her that I have been able to face all obstacles that have come into my life." They are now the proud parents of two sons -- Samuel and Norvin. "I am the happiest person on earth at the moment" proclaims one of the biggest stars of the country
